THE COULL QUARTET
with Garfield Jackson, viola
FRIDAY 5 APRIL 2019 19:30 | THE PARISH CHURCH, OLD GLOSSOP
Roger Coull violin | Philip Gallaway violin | Jonathan Barritt viola | Nicholas Roberts cello | Garfield Jackson viola
Kodály Quartet No. 2 Op.10 | Mozart String Quintet in G minor K516 | Dvorák String Quintet Op.97 in E flat.
“Here is a group, exceptionally intelligent and responsive, which gives freshness to any music it touches.” – The Guardian
The Coull Quartet formed in 1974 at the Royal Academy of Music and, in 1977, were appointed Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick, a position they still hold today. They return to Glossop following their successful recital in 2017.
The concert will feature Zoltán Kodály’s ‘almost neo-classical’ (BBC Music Magazine) Quartet No.2, Op.10, Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, perhaps one of his most personal and deeply moving works, and finally Dvořák’s String Quintet Op.97 in E flat from his American period. Joining the Quartet for the Mozart and Dvořák pieces is violist Garfield Jackson, a founding member of the Endellion Quartet.
Tickets are free and available on the door. We will be accepting donations (cash or cheque) after the concert to reflect what audience members felt the concert was worth.
Reserved seating is available for Friends of Glossop Music Festival who notify us by emailing friends@glossopmusicfestival.org.uk of their seating requirements before 1 April. Unreserved seating (some with restricted view) is available in the rest of the church on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open 19.00. For details of how to become a Friend please click here.
