Yesterday afternoon (Monday 16 March), the trustees were about to issue the following statement. The Government announcement has confirmed that they had decided on the appropriate action.

Glossop Music Festival has reviewed its ongoing commitments in the light of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) situation. Taking into account the current advice, escalating situation, and the prediction that the epidemic is likely to reach its peak around the month of the Summer Festival, together with the Festival’s financial commitments, we have regrettably decided to postpone both the concert to be given by the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet on Friday 27 March 2020 and the Summer Festival in June 2020.

Sad and disappointing as this is, we take our responsibilities for public health very seriously and feel it is the only responsible decision that can be taken.

When appropriate, the Festival team will work with musicians, venues and others to reinstate those exciting plans where possible. We look forward to such times and will issue an update at that time. Many thanks for your continued support of Glossop Music Festival.

If you are a Friend of the Festival, we all want you to know how important and valuable your support is and has been to the Festival in the past. We are not overstating things by saying that your support is even more vital in very difficult times such as those we currently face. We very much hope that you will continue to support us as we seek to re-establish concerts when circumstances will permit and we earnestly hope that you will renew your Friends membership at the appropriate time. Thank you.
