THE GOULD PIANO TRIO
WITH ROBERT PLANE, CLARINET
Friday 2 February 7.30pm | Old Glossop Parish Church
Ravel Piano Trio in A minor | Debussy Première Rhapsody | Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time
The Gould Piano Trio – pianist Benjamin Frith, violinist Lucy Gould and cellist Alice Neary – have been at the forefront of the chamber music scene for 30 years. They perform Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time at Glossop Parish Church on Friday 2 February with regular collaborator, clarinettist Robert Plane, whose solo and chamber career has taken him to prestigious venues across Europe and beyond.
Messiaen wrote Quartet for the End of Time in 1941 during his time as a prisoner-of-war in German captivity, and the piece was premiered by his fellow prisoners. The Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane recorded the piece in 2008 and it was praised by BBC Music Magazine as the ‘best modern account’ of this monumental work. The concert also features Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor, and Debussy’s Première Rhapsody.
Tickets are free and available on the door. We will be accepting donations (cash or cheque) after the concert to reflect what audience members felt the concert was worth. Reserved seating is available for Friends of Glossop Music Festival who notify us by email of their seating requirements before 28 January. Unreserved seating (some with restricted view) is available in the rest of the church on a first-come, first-served basis. For details of how to become a Friend please click here.
