About this event

Come and hear classical masterpieces in the beautiful setting of Old Glossop Parish Church, performed by world-class musicians. Our festival president, Viv McLean, lauded internationally for his wonderful musicianship and spectacular pianism returns to the festival to open the concert with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and also perform a selection of intimate Mazurkas and Waltzes by Chopin on a beautiful Steinway piano.

Friend of the festival, virtuoso violinist Katie Stillman - newly appointed leader of the Orchestra of Opera North - will perform works by Mozart and Gershwin.

The concert will also feature works that take their inspiration from Christmas, including selections from Liszt's Christmas Tree Suite for piano duet - Viv will be joined once again by Glossop's own acclaimed concert pianist, Benjamin Powell - and Percy Grainger's moving arrangement of 'The Sussex Mummer's Carol'.

Glossop Parish Church will be lit by candlelight and provide glorious acoustics and a hugely atmospheric backdrop to this concert.

We want world-class classical music to be accessible to all, and so our Christmas Concert will not be ticketed - simply turn up on the night. Donations will be sought at the end of the concert to reflect what you felt the concert was worth. We ask our audience to donate as generously as possible, according to your means. The money raised will help fund our week-long Summer Festival, comprising a variety of concerts, events and our extensive education programme.

Seating for the Christmas Concert will be unreserved, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The doors and bar will be open from 6.30pm, and we encourage you to arrive early to choose your seats. Drinks can be taken to your seats.

Those who have joined the GMF Friends will be able to take advantage of reserved seats towards the front of the church, as a token of our appreciation for their support of Glossop Music Festival. Please message or email for further information.

We look forward to welcoming you to a fun, festive evening of wonderful music-making!
