Introducing Vasilis Bessas

Vasilis Bessas is one of the talented guitarists in the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet. Don’t miss Vasilis and the rest of the quartet at our concert on Friday 19 April!

Vasilis Bessas was born in Athens, Greece. He started playing the guitar at the age of 10 and a few years later he entered the Pallini Music High school in Athens while having lessons with Kostas Hatzopoulos and Notis Mavroudis. After briefly flirting with the double bass, Vasilis continued his education in the UK at the Royal Northern College of Music where he studied with Gordon Crosskey and Craig Ogden. In 1999 he co-founded the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet and since has given concerts in numerous venues in the UK and abroad such as the Royal Albert Hall, Athens Megaron Concert Hall and Seoul Lotte Concert Hall. Other significant performances include appearances at Classic FM Live and live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3. The quartet has also recorded five albums with CHANDOS records. Vasilis is part of the guitar faculty at Chetham’s School of Music, a visiting external examiner at the RNCM and a proud dad!
