Meet James Jervis!

James is a super talented guitarist and has been part of the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet for over twenty years!



London-born, James Jervis studied the classical guitar from the age of seven at the Centre for Young Musicians and later with Carlos Bonell. He toured with the National Youth Music Theatre in Weill’s Threepenny Opera, performing in Edinburgh and on Broadway in New York.


James continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with the eminent tutors, Gordon Crosskey and Craig Ogden, completing his studies in 2004 and graduating with both a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and a Diploma in Professional Performance as a soloist. The recipient of two RNCM scholarships, he also won a substantial award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund.


As a soloist and chamber musician, James has appeared in many venues including London’s Bolivar Hall and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall (performing with the Hallé). In 2002 he became a member of the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet which has since become one of the world’s leading chamber groups, recording for Chandos records and performing internationally to critical acclaim.


James has enjoyed teaching the guitar throughout his musical career. Since 2005, he has tutored at Manchester Grammar School and is an external examiner for the Royal Northern College of Music.


James plays a 1999 Paul Sheridan guitar.
